FVCS Fall Program Update

First, a heartfelt thank you to all Girdwood, Bird, Indian and Portage residents for your support of Four Valleys Community School. We have been serving our community for 40 years, and look forward to many more. Like all of you, we have been severely impacted by Covid, but we are not going to let it get in the way of providing recreational, educational and cultural activities for our community. This fall we will offer programs both online and in person for people of all ages, and we need your help to make it happen.

What’s Next for FVCS: Now that the weather has changed, and we are solidly into cooler and very wet rainforest conditions, we hope to begin to offer small group indoor programs in addition to online programing. When and IF school begins in mid-October, we will offer small group gym-based opportunities from the Girdwood K-8 School. We will also use additional buildings and locations such as the Girdwood Chapel, Challenge Alaska, and Meadows Community Center (Our Lady of the Snows) to run programs. We are working to develop programs now. Here is where we need your help (see below)!

Volunteer and Paid Instructors Wanted: As it gets darker and colder, we are concerned about the social, mental and physical health of our community. Connection during times of social distancing is especially important. You can help serve the greater good of Girdwood by sharing your time and talent with others. Do you have an idea for a class that you could offer?  Do you have a skill, talent or interest to share? We are looking for online and small in-person programs that are of local interest and reflect the unique lifestyle of our community. It might be a simple Halloween craft for kids, or a complex cooking project. Pumpkin carving? Slideshow of a great trip or cool experience you could share? Healthy living? Ski conditioning? Garden winterizing tips? Let us know your area of interest, and FVCS staff will help you pull a class offering together. Please email cmcdermott@fourvalleys.org with your idea. Let’s make this happen for our community!
