What an amazing place Girdwood and the Four Valleys area is to live and work. We are surrounded not
only by the natural beauty of a mountain town, but amongst people who give of their time, talent and treasure to keep this community vibrant.
Through the efforts of our part-time staff, our engaged Board of Directors, and our volunteer instructors we have
been able to provide our community with high quality classes that are available locally, and with events
that support community building and volunteerism. Here at Four Valleys Community School we have a diverse pool of volunteer instructors who are talented and professional, providing our program with an interesting mix of classes and events.
We want to thank you for supporting our 2013 programs and events. This past year we offered over 220
classes, ranging from kid’s crafting classes to yoga to guitar lessons to chess club to kombucha brewing
to Pilates! We offer special programs for school aged children including After “Skool” Radio, Nordic
Skiing Club, Outdoor and Indoor Soccer, Cross Country Running Club, Summer Playground and our new
Basketball Program. We provide community events like the Community Volunteer BBQ, Adult Night
Out, and the Ski & Sports Swap. We provide support to other area non-profit events including Girdwood
Fine Arts Camp, the Community Mosaic Project, many Girdwood School events, the PTA, and the Health
Fair. We may be small, but we are mighty!
This next year will bring some major changes to Four Valleys Community School. Our base of
operations, the Girdwood K-8 School, will be undergoing a complete renovation and new construction.
We will continue to operate, but at reduced capacity. Keeping our eyes to our long term objectives and
mission, we look forward to bringing this community even more classes, events and programs when
the construction project is done. In the short term however, this will impact our capacity to generate
program revenue.
How can you help? We welcome your donation to our general fund. Your donations will help us
continue to be a positive presence in this community for now, during construction and into the future,
and help us to keep the costs of our programs down.
1. Please make a donation to our General Fund.
2. Purchase tickets for the Alyeska Snow Classic, beginning in March 2014.
3. Buy a Gift Certificate for our classes, good for one year.
4. Join our team of volunteer instructors by calling 742-5317.
Thank you to all of you who have made donations to our program this year. Looking ahead, we are busy
working to put together our next session of classes, events, and programs to begin in early February.
We are gearing up to launch our next Alyeska Snow Classic, a fundraiser for us that we hope will help
our sustainability, beginning in March. We will then be focusing on our Summer Program, and preparing
to move out of the school for the big construction.
Thank you for supporting Four Valleys Community Schools!
